9'9" x 13'4" (297cm x 406cm) Turkey, Central Anatolia: Late 20th Century Felt: wool
$3,950
A large old wool carpet from Central Turkey, made of two identical halves stitched together, in "felt" technique: matting, condensing and pressing wool fibers, possibly the oldest form of fabric. Felt carpets like these would be the floor covers in homes in small towns in Central Turkey and they would be ordered from local workshops. This pair was made apparently for two sisters whose names are inscribed at the top, along with the name of the felt-maker.
