Turkey, Northeast Anatolia: Late 20th Century
Wool pile on wool foundation: wool
An unusually large tribal carpet from Northeast Turkey, on the border with the Caucasian region. The large scale star or shield design is familiar from Kurdish and Caucasian carpets and is rendered in a whimsical manner we expect from tribal weavers. The color shifts, called "abrash", add to the overall dramatic effect. A very surprising, exciting and rare recent find.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved with minimal, gentle wear. Sturdy and clean.
