$19,500
A beautiful antique "suzani" embroidery from Uzbekistan, in a style generally associated with the city of Bukhara. A border with large floral medallions and meandering vines surround a field of smaller blossoms arranged in a diagonal grid. The motifs are rendered in silk on a hand-woven, undyed cotton cloth.
Used as ceremonial bed covers and wall hangings, pieces like this are associated with local wedding customs and are among the most impressive examples of textile art anywhere.
