An antique Persian rug by the Khamseh tribes of Southwestern Iran. A very well-known type, known affectionately as the "Murgh", or chicken rug among dealers and collectors - though the word means chicken in modern usage, it means bird in old Persian and in the context of these rugs, the bird motif is a reference to the many birds in Persian mythology.
