An impressive antique "suzani" embroidery from Uzbekistan, possibly made in Bukhara, displaying a design of stylized floral blossoms arranged in a diagonal lattice defined by branches of green leaves. The motifs are rendered in silk on a hand-woven, undyed cotton cloth.
Used as ceremonial bed covers and wall hangings, pieces like this are associated with local wedding customs and are among the most impressive examples of textile art anywhere.
