A fascinating Moroccan Berber carpet, attributed to the Ait Bou Ichaouen tribes. Working within the traditions of her tribe, the weaver nonetheless created her unique interpretation of age-old themes that defies simplistic explanations. At the eastern end of the High Atlas range, on the edge of the Sahara, the Ait Bou Ichaouen territory was hard to reach until the last decade of the 20th century. Their weavings are one of the last truly great discoveries of authentic tribal art.
