A superb example of fine carpet weaving from the famed looms of Hereke, a small town east of Istanbul, where royal workshops were established in the nineteenth century to produce fine fabrics and carpets for the new palaces of the Turkish sultans. Fine carpets, in wool and in silk are made in and around the town to this day.
