Azilal Berber Rug

(DK-92-38)
3'10" x 7' (117cm x 213cm)
Morocco, High Atlas Mountains: Late 20th Century
Knotted pile: wool, cotton
A very cheerful example of Moroccan Berber weaving from the High Atlas Mountains, where authentic weaving traditions - as opposed to commercial weaving - survive to this day. Chaotic at first sight, it takes a while to appreciate the weaver's skill in creating an artful composition.
