Karapinar Rug with Flowers and Greek Key Border

(DK-89-24)
4'4" x 8'1" (132cm x 246cm)
Turkey, Central Anatolia: Mid-20th Century
Wool pile on wool foundation: wool
A very elegant Turkish village rug, with thick and incredibly soft pile, featuring somewhat realistically rendered flowers. A first-class example of the type. The so-called Greek key motif in the border, a rare link to the region's Graeco-Roman heritage, is originally inspired by meandering rivers - there is an actual River Meandros (Menderes) in Western Turkey.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved, sturdy and clean
