Antique Kula Long Rug in Angora

(DK-83-1)   Antique
3'11" x 8'10" (119cm x 269cm)
Turkey, Western Anatolia: Circa 1900, or earlier
Knotted pile: wool, angora
A well-known type and one of our favorites, but this one is really special: the pile is angora (mohair), not regular wool, and retains its soft sheen despite the age. The drawing and the proportions are very graceful and the color palette is unusual.

With tulips and carnations and a profusion of other stylized floral forms, these rugs are direct descendants of Ottoman Turkish carpet making from the classical period.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved and clean, with overall, age-appropriate wear
