Early Beni Mguild Berber Rug

(DK-128-38)
5'8" x 9'1" (173cm x 277cm)
Morocco, Middle Atlas Mountains: Early 20th Century
Knotted pile: wool
A rare early Berber rug from the Ait Arfa, in the easternmost part of the territory close to the Ait Youssi - tribes affiliated with the greater Beni Mguild confederacy.

The classical, small scale and calm diamond lattice design and the beautiful deep old indigo indicate a very early age, probably as early as 1920s-30s. One of the oldest Berber rugs we've ever had.
