Bakhtiari Kilim

(DK-128-31)   Antique
5'9" x 8' (175cm x 244cm)
Iran, Southwest Persia: Circa 1900
Flat-weave (kilim), dovetailing and brocading techniques: wool, cotton
Richly decorated and intensely colored with brilliant natural dyes, this antique kilim is the work of Bakhtiari tribes of Southwestern Iran.

The borders are woven in an intricate brocading technique. Bright white cotton is used in the field for dramatic effect. A very good example of the well-known, but increasingly hard-to-find type.
