3'9" x 6'9" (114cm x 206cm) Central Asia, possibly Uzbek tribes: Circa 1900 Wool pile on wool foundation: wool
$3,750 Sold
A small format rug from Central Asia, featuring a design woven by many Turkmen groups, but probably made one of the non-Turkmen tribes in the region. The basic repeat motif, called a "gul", features double-headed animal motifs.
Note how the weaver started with a different design at the bottom of the field and changed her mind after weaving only one row. She also stopped before she completed the last row. Charming details of an authentic tribal weaving.
