A large kilim from the Balkans, a type referred to as "Sharkoy", after the old Turkish name of the town of Pirot in southeastern Serbia, historically an important center of production for such weavings. This is a great example from the early part of the 20th century, featuring one of the well-known designs in a very attractive color palette.
