A beautiful antique "suzani" embroidery from Uzbekistan, prrobably from the city of Bukhara, in "nim", i.e. half-size format. A border with large floral medallions surround a field filled with bouquets of smaller blossoms arranged in a diagonal grid. The motifs are rendered in silk on a hand-woven, undyed cotton cloth.
Used as ceremonial bed covers and wall hangings, pieces like this are associated with local wedding customs and are among the most impressive examples of textile art anywhere.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved and clean. Minor stains are age appropriate and do not detract from its beauty. Backed with new linen.
