Antique "Shekarlu" Qashqai Rug

(DK-106-36)   Antique
5'8" x 9'5" (173cm x 287cm)
Iran, Southwest Persia: Late 19th Century
Knotted pile: wool
A classic example from the Shekarlu sub-tribe of the Qashqai confederacy. The well-known design is executed with a good degree of improvisation. The choice of red as the background color is relatively rare. And, can you spot the lions, the peacocks and other mythical creatures, hiding in plain sight?
