Flat-weave (kilim), "sumak" brocading: wool
A very handsome old tribal flat-weave from Azerbaijan, woven in the intricate "sumak" brocading technique. Combining a tribal design sensibility with the classical weaving traditions of this prolific region, large sumaks like this continued to be woven well into the 20th century. This is a very nice example of the type with a very pleasing color palette and bold design.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved, sturdy and clean.
