Antique Heriz Carpet

9'1" x 11'8" (277cm x 356cm)
Iran, Northwest Persia: Circa 1900
Knotted pile: wool
Woven in Northwest Iran since the end of the 19th century, Heriz carpets have been a familiar fixture of American and European interiors ever since. This is a nice example of the type, with an appealing color palette derived from clear natural dyes and an overall design, rather than the more common central medallion layout. Increasingly hard to find in such good condition.
