Central Asia, Turkmenistan: Late 19th Century
Knotted pile: wool
A very nice antique carpet from Central Asia, attributed to the Ersari Turkmen tribes settled along the Amu Darya River (Oxus in Latin sources.) Large carpets like this, in elongated format and featuring sophisticated designs are thought to have been made for, perhaps commissioned by, urban patrons in Bukhara, Samarkand and other cities of the region.

Note how the weavers decided to change the border design, resulting in an adjustment of the width.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved, sturdy and clean
