4'5" x 5'8" (135cm x 173cm) Turkey, Northeast Anatolia: Late 19th Century Flat-weave (kilim), slit-tapestry technique: wool
$ on request
A great example of Anatolian kilim weaving tradition, in the ever popular "prayer rug" format, from a region that was famous for this kind. The "tree-of-life" motif, seen here both in the center and the main border, is a classic and beautifully rendered.
Such kilims were cherished and often used as wall hangings rather than being used for daily prayers.
Condition & Remarks
Very well preserved, sturdy and clean
As a refined and delicate weaving in near perfect state of preservation, this kilim should not be used under heavy traffic.
