A wonderful old rug from Central Turkey, woven in silky, lustrous angora goat hair, i.e. mohair, with superb texture and patina, indicating good age. The chessboard design is well-known, but the color palette is quite unusual. A couple of the squares in the centre appear to be old repairs, but they are very well done and add to the charm.
