An antique tribal carpet from Central Asia attributed to the Ersari Turkmen. Deeply saturated colors, dominated by rich madder reds, repetitive heraldic symbols, called "guls," that indicate tribal lineage are the defining characteristics of Turkmen weaving. The present carpet is a good example of authentic, tribal Ersari weaving, with a beautiful rendition of this classic design. This size format is referred to as the "main" carpet, as it would have been the largest weaving that the nomadic Turkmen family would own. This is a collectible antique that can still be used on the floor, being in remarkable state of preservation, with only some minor repairs to long flat-woven skirts.
