A very handsome antique carpet from Central Asia, attributed to the Ersari Turkmen tribes settled along the Amu Darya River (Oxus in Latin sources.) Large carpets like this, in elongated format and featuring sophisticated designs are thought to have been made for, perhaps commissioned by, urban patrons in Bukhara, Samarkand and other cities of the region.
